Comfort & Climate
Ceiling Fans
Ceiling fans are a cost-effective and energy-efficient inclusion that many buyers underestimate. While they can't replace air conditioning in extreme heat, they significantly improve comfort and reduce running costs — and whether a builder includes them in every room or only the living area is a meaningful difference.

What is it?
Ceiling fans are fixed fan units installed in the ceiling that circulate air to create a cooling breeze. In reverse-cycle models, they can also push warm air down in winter. Builders typically include ceiling fans in the main living area and alfresco, with additional fans in bedrooms as an upgrade.
Why buyers compare it
- Ceiling fans are cheap to include during the build but expensive to add later
- Fans reduce air conditioning running costs significantly when used together
- Some builders include fans in all rooms; others include only one or two
- Wired ceiling fan points during construction avoid costly retrofit electrical work
Is it worth upgrading?

Compare My Build Tip
Even if you don't want ceiling fans in every room right now, ask your builder to include ceiling fan wiring points (a junction box and switch) in all bedrooms. Adding wiring after the plaster is up costs far more than the fan itself — the pre-wired point lets you add a fan later for just the cost of the fixture.
