Practical Completion Inspection (PCI) Checklist
Use this practical completion inspection checklist before handover. See what to check throughout your new home and what to look for before accepting practical completion.
The Practical Completion Inspection (PCI) is your last major opportunity to identify issues with your new home before you accept the keys. Builders are required to fix genuine defects — but only if you find them and report them. This room-by-room checklist helps ensure nothing is missed.
Tip
Hire an independent building inspector to attend your PCI. They charge $400–$600 and will identify defects your untrained eye will miss. It's one of the best investments you can make in the building process.

Note
Document every defect with dated photos. Create a written defects list and submit it to your builder in writing before accepting keys. Keep copies of all correspondence.
